Volunteers are need in several areas: mentors, judges, and competition volunteers.
Team mentors are needed to assist teachers and teams throughout the school year. Mentors may be professionals in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) fields working in the local area or students in STEM disciplines attending schools in the local area. Mentors are encouraged to:
• attend practices
• help students learn general concepts and processes
• advise teams on their programming and on maintaining the engineering notebook
• provide other needed support to the teacher
There are two categories for judges: navigation and technical presentations. Robot Judges evaluate the performance of the robots as the robots navigate through the mini-urban city and Presentation Judges evaluate the oral presentations and engineering design notebooks.
Competition volunteers are needed to help with set-up, tear-down, checking in teams, and other miscellaneous duties during the competition.
